In creating the new APX and CPX guitars, we worked hard to further develop the critical point in the audio path – the pickup.

Yamaha electro-acoustic guitars have consistently used leading edge pickup technologies for the most natural amplified sound. In our search for increasingly natural tone we have now developed an entirely new pickup structure, capable of capturing a greater dynamic range than standard piezo pickups and uniquely suited to the requirements of the modern acoustic guitarist.

The unique A.R.T (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) pickup features a multilayer construction designed to provide the perfect balance between sensitivity and noise reduction. Designed exclusively for Yamaha acoustic guitars, the A.R.T pickup offers incredible dynamic range, outstanding feedback rejection and, thanks to its being mounted on the back of the guitar's top, picks up the natural resonance of the guitar to create exceptionally natural amplified tone.

Pickup Placement

Based on years of research, pickup placement in the APX and CPX guitars was determined to within one-tenth of a millimetre. Having found the 'sweet-spot', we then re-designed the internal bracing of the guitars to allow for ideal placement while maintaining the tonal character of the guitars.

APX and CPX 700 series guitars feature a 1-way system, consisting of two A.R.T pickups, marked orange in the diagram.

APX and CPX 900 guitars feature a 3-way system with additional A.R.T pickups on the bass and treble side of the bridge, marked blue and black in the diagram
