Our L-Series guitars feature the latest construction innovations, coupled with traditional crafting techniques to build instruments of unparalleled playability, tone and beauty.

Laminated Neck

Traditionally, an acoustic guitar neck is carved from a single timber block. The L-Series vintage 'V' profile necks are hand carved from multi-ply laminated materials - mahogany/rosewood/mahogany on 6 and 16 series models and mahogany/paduak/mahogany/paduak/mahogany on 26 and 36 series models. The use of laminated woods ensure the necks are much stronger and more stable than single piece designs while the use of complimentary tonewoods affords the instrument a more complex tone - thanks to combining the richness and warmth of mahogany with the brighter, more powerful midrange of rosewood or paduak.

Dovetail Neck Joint

Dovetail Neck Joint

Yamaha's hand-fitted dovetail neck joint provides the best possible method of fitting neck to body. Precisely shaped by hand for each guitar, neck and body are fitted at the start of the production process and reunited after finishing. Total wood to wood contact and no metal parts means that strength and vibration transfer are maximized, making this our neck joint of choice.

C-shaped Neck Block

C-Block

Fitted into the body where the neck and body join, the neck block is crucial in ensuring a stable neck joint and efficient transfer of vibrations from neck to body. The C-shaped neck block used in the L-Series expands the regular 'L' shaped block by adding a tongue that extends onto the back of the guitar. Developed from classical guitar construction techniques, the C-shaped block offers increased strength and stability together with greater transfer of vibrations for a fuller tone.

Square Frame Side Bracing

26 and 36 series models feature Square Frame Side Bracing, where structural braces connect the bracing on the top and back of the guitar to allow the body's vibrations to be more efficiently transferred to the whole guitar's structure for increased volume and low-frequency response. The experience of playing a 26 or 36 series model is one of playing a guitar that's truly alive with sound.

ARE Pre-aged Woods

Developed in response to the question of what acoustic guitarists really want from their instruments, ARE (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is a step added to the wood seasoning process that pre-ages the sound and appearance of the wood. Using an exclusive, patented process, ARE crystalises the cellulose in the wood fibre in exactly the same way as years of ageing - the single most significant element in what makes an old guitar sound old. Available on 26 and 36 series models, ARE guitars boast a smoother, more coherent tone with fuller bass and richer treble - just a like an instrument played for 30 or 30 years.

Ultra-thin Finish

The high-gloss finish on all L-Series models is hand applied and ultra-thin, around 0.25mm. Strong enough to protect the instrument and provide stunning good looks, it's still thin enough to allow the wood to resonate freely to ensure powerful, natural tone and maximum volume.
