The ART of great electro-acoustic sound
Yamaha's ART (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) pickup system is purpose designed to offer the most natural, dynamic and expressive electro-acoustic sound on the market. Proprietary multi-layer contact sensors perfectly combine ultra-wide dynamic range with outstanding feedback rejection for the most accurate and natural performance sound.
Pickup Placement
Based on years of research, pickup placement was determined to within one-tenth of a millimetre. Having found the 'sweet-spot', we then re-designed the internal bracing of the guitars to allow for ideal placement while maintaining the tonal character of the guitars.
APX and CPX700 series guitars feature a 1-way system, consisting of two A.R.T. pickups, marked orange in the diagram and capturing the full tonal range of the guitar.
APX and CPX900, and our new L-Series models, feature a 3-way system with additional sub-pickups designed to pick up only bass or treble frequencies in addition to the main, full-range pickup. These sub-pickups are marked blue and black in the diagram.
For our nylon-strung NX Series guitars, we use a 2-way system with contact pickups mounted on the treble and bass sides of the guitar bridge. To reduce unwanted feedback caused by vibration the NX Series contact pickup utilises an additional multilayer damper to ensure the tone is captured in its purest form.
System 56 - APX/CPX700 models
The System 56 1-way preamp features 3-way, ultra-musical EQ with sweepable midrange control for precise control and tonal flexibility together with an on-board chromatic tuner. Yamaha's class-leading preamp ergonomics ensure that the preamp is perfectly suited to on-stage use with ample space and easily accessed controls.
System 57 - APX/CPX900 models, L-Series 6 models
System 57-s 3-way configuration adds discrete bass and treble sub-pickups to the full-range ART pickup for powerful, natural tone. The preamp features master volume and independent sub-pickup volumes together with 3-band ultra-musical EQ and an on-board chromatic tuner.
System 60 - L-Series 16, 26 and 36 models
Utilising a 3-way ART configuration with independent full-range, bass and treble pickups, System 60 features a uniquely powerful yet simple preamp. Using hi-fi grade Japanese components for the most transparent sound possible, System 60 features no EQ, instead offering 3 volume controls - 1 each for each pickup - and a master volume control for incredible flexibility blending only the real tonal elements of your guitar, not electronically created equalisation. Fitted to our finest instruments, System 60 allows the true acoustic tone of the guitar to shine through while the exclusive push/push controls ensure the visual impact is as minimal as the tonal one.
System 61 - NX Series
Complementing the warm, full mid-range of the nylon-string tone, the System 61 preamp allows individual volume control over the treble and bass side pickups, allowing you to get the perfect blend for your style. The System 61 preamp also features a 3-band EQ for sound shaping and an on-board tuner.
